Geospatial Metadata Requirements
What metadata should we be tracking for our spatial content (i.e., Locations and their coordinates)? What format(s) should we provide it in?
Basic must-haves and must-knows
- Initially, all coordinates will share the same geospatial technical data (projection etc.), but this will diversify (modestly?) over time
- precision and accuracy (because of source scales) will vary across 3 or 4 broad classes
- Plone already has fields (we're using them!) for basic Dublin Core metadata categories (like title, author, description), which will certainly map onto some fields in geospatial metadata standards
Minimally necessary fields (thinking at the individual feature level, not the aggregate dataset level)
- Attribute accuracy
- Logical consistency
- Positional accuracy
- Processing steps
- Horizontal coordinate system
- Latitude and longitude resolution
- Descriptions of all entities and attributes (data dictionary)
